Blaze Handle Giants, Grab 7-2 Win
The San Jose Giants got a sterling performance from pitcher Matt Sheffer, but the Bakersfield Blaze still prevailed, 7-2. Sheffer came in in relief and pitched to 21 batters. Bakersfield pitcher Mark Burgess earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Tyler Hayes suffered the loss. The Blaze now own a record of 44-60.

Tanner Hampton had a big bases-clearing double for the Blaze in the bottom of the first inning. With Bakersfield leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 23-year old left-handed pitcher Tyler Hayes and swatted a double to left. It was his 20th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blaze ahead, 4-0.

"We had a nice day," said Bakersfield skipper Jerry Zuniga.
