Blaze Claim Late Win
The Bakersfield Blaze faced a tough opponent in Modesto pitcher Tom Valko, but did just enough to pull out the victory at John Thurman Field by a final score of 5-3. Valko went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Jesus Arias, now 2-7, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Bakersfield is last in the North Division with a record of 47-60.

Bakersfield used a timely hit from Mike Sloan to get the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Blaze ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We didn't go down without a fight," said Modesto manager Josh Weddington.
