Mavericks Capture Close Win

Stater Bros. Stadium did not lack for drama.
The High Desert Mavericks took Visalia pitcher Mario Santos's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Stater Bros. Stadium. The final score had High Desert getting past the Rawhide, 3-2. Santos went 7 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 8. High Desert reliever Eddie Serrano picked up the win, upping his record to 2-5. Frank Henson was saddled with the loss.
Kelly Rappa was the walk-off hero for High Desert. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mavericks shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Put a star next to this win," Rappa said.
With the win over Visalia, the Mavericks improved to 47-64.
