Giants Trip Mavericks, 5-1

San Jose beat High Desert on the strength of starting pitcher Daniel Roth's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-1. The first-place Giants bumped their record to 75-37.
The Mavericks had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Giants going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old center fielder Manuel Hermosillo came to the plate. Hermosillo hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 sinker from High Desert hurler John Streber. It was Hermosillo's 3rd home run of the year.
"I pretty much put my pitches where I wanted to," said Roth.
