Nuts Nip Ports, 10-9
|
The Modesto Nuts topped the Stockton Ports, 10-9, in 13 innings. Modesto first baseman Jake Everett, in particular, was impressive. He went 3-6 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The winner was Mike Person in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Alex Ponce took the loss. Modesto is 4th in the North Division with a record of 53-63.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Jeff Schroeder came to bat in the top of the 13th. Facing Stockton pitcher Alex Ponce, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Modesto on top, 10-9.
"Feels good to be on the winning side," said Schroeder.
