In a low-scoring contest between the Bakersfield Blaze and the Visalia Rawhide, Joe Whitlatch was the X factor. The Bakersfield right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. In 6 innings, Whitlatch surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run.

The Blaze got a big at-bat from shortstop Brian Kiehn. For the game, Kiehn was 1-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 5th double of the season gave Bakersfield a 2-1 lead.
