The San Jose Giants topped the Inland Empire 66ers, 9-3, at San Manuel Stadium. San Jose third baseman Lee Carter was a spark plug for the offense. He went 2-3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The North Division-leading Giants have a record of 73-45.

John Pond had a big bases-clearing double for the Giants in the top of the third inning. With San Jose trailing 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from Frank Vargas and swatted a double to right. It was his 18th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 4-2.

"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Carter.
