Mavericks 3-1 Victors Over Lake Elsinore
|
The High Desert Mavericks picked up a win at Stater Bros. Stadium, downing the Lake Elsinore Storm, 3-1. On the mound for High Desert was right-hander Jesse Gilmer, who played a pivotal role in the win. In 7.1 innings, Gilmer surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Justin Kolb got the save, the 1st for him this season.
Guillermo Fernandez had a big run-scoring double for the Mavericks in the bottom of the first inning. With High Desert leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Tony Rivera, who is tied for 2nd in the CAL in innings pitched with 221.0, and swatted a double to left. It was his 30th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mavericks ahead, 2-0.
"Jesse made some good pitches in some situations he needed to make them in," said High Desert manager Jose Sierra.
The Mavericks raised their record to 68-57.
