Giants Score Late to Nip Quakes, 2-1
|
San Jose registered a win at San Jose Municipal Stadium by beating the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 2-1. Pitcher Bill Laird was one reason why the Giants triumphed. The save was credited to Juan Talamantes, his 7th. San Jose currently is in second place in the North Division at 66-60.
Had Juan Castro not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Castro hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Giants.
"Tough loss," said Rancho Cucamonga manager Dave Eldon. "The kind that burns a little inside."
