The Modesto Nuts rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher Luis Bugarin to a win, beating the San Jose Giants, 3-0, at John Thurman Field. Bugarin, the winner, moves to 8-5. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 11 and giving up 2 walks. Ryan Tassin recorded his 7th save for Modesto.
The Nuts had to work out of trouble in the top of the eighth. The score was 3-0, Modesto, with no one out. San Jose, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. Sam Scheurer dug in at the plate, but on a 3-1 fastball, he hit into a double play.
