Giants Win, Now 82-45
|
The bats were silent much of the day at San Jose Municipal Stadium. But 25-year old shortstop Sam Scheurer produced just enough offense to carry the Giants past the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 3-0. Scheurer belted 2 home runs. Marshall Facey went 6.1 innings, allowing no runs on 6 hits. The right-hander, who is tied for 2nd in the CAL with a 2.04 ERA, struck out 5 and walked 3. With the win, he's now 12-7 this season. Earning his 21st save for San Jose was Ben Schaffer.
San Jose took a 2-0 lead on Scheurer's 10th home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Troy Novell in the bottom of the sixth, propelled San Jose to the win.
Scheurer said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
With the victory, the Giants record stands at 82-45.
