The performance of Israel Valero proved critical in helping Rancho Cucamonga beat San Jose, 9-5. The Quakes right fielder was 2-2 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2. Luis Barriga, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 4 hits in 4.1 innings. The setback makes San Jose 66-61.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the seventh, with the game tied, Jesus Zaldivar was at the plate when Rancho Cucamonga scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Quakes to go in front, 6-5.

"Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Zaldivar told the Rancho Cucamonga Times.
