Guardians Win Thriller, 4-3
|
The Cleveland Guardians faced a tough opponent in Minnesota pitcher Ron Hazard, but found a way to pull out the victory at Progressive Field by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings. Hazard went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs. Cleveland reliever Pablo Iglesias was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Carlos Mella. The loss has the Twins at 7-7.
The decisive blow was delivered by J.J. Kirby in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 28-year old left-handed pitcher Carlos Mella to win the game for Cleveland. The home crowd went nuts.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," Kirby told the Cleveland Bulletin.
