Pirovano Lifts Nationals to 9-0 Triumph
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 25-year old center fielder Matthias Pirovano, the Washington Nationals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-0. Washington pitcher Nick Palmer earned the win, hiking his record to 2-0. Juan Castillo suffered the loss. The win puts Washington at 4-9.
One pivotal at-bat came with one out in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded and St. Louis trailing 9-0, Nate Johnson needed to bear down against Nick Vargas. Johnson won the battle, as Vargas struck out and the Nationals went on to win.
