The home crowd had a good time watching the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates get after it.

Getting an impressive start from Mike Rutherford, Pittsburgh beat New York by the score of 6-2. Rutherford, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs.

The Pirates got an important contribution from second baseman Carlos Flores, who in the bottom of the third punched a 1-1 sinker into left-center for a bases-clearing triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 5-0.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Flores said.

With the loss, New York falls to 9-5.
