Reds Win, 3-2, Versus Cubs
|
The Cincinnati Reds did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Cubs, 3-2, at Wrigley Field. Cincinnati pitcher Jason Mele, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner was Mele. He threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Jérémy Dumont. Corey Comer earned his 6th save, after closing out the game.
Michael Draper, who led the NL in home runs with 59 in 2105, had a direct impact on the outcome. Draper contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Cincinnati up, 3-0.
"Jason did a good job of managing their lineup," said Cincinnati manager BJ Gorman.
The win gives Cincinnati a record of 11-5.
