The Washington Nationals got a good effort from starter Erik McFadden in defeating the New York Mets at Nationals Park. The final score was 6-2. McFadden, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. Picking up the save was Mike DeWolfe, his 1st.

Kyle Witek went 1 for 3 for Washington. The 27-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Mike Rutz. It was his 4th RBI of the season.

"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said McFadden. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."

The Nationals, with just their 4th win in 14 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
