Astros Win Squeaker, 3-2, Over Yankees
|
The New York Yankees could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Bryan Brown into a win. Instead, the Houston Astros prevailed, 3-2. Brown threw 8.0 innings of 2-hit ball. The winning pitcher was former first round draft pick Kihachi Okuhara. He tossed 110 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Jeff Hank locked down his 4th save.
Houston took a 3-2 lead on Travis Gibb's 9th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Gibb hit in the top of the ninth, left New York pitcher Zach Rogers visibly frustrated.
"What we get, we earn," Gibb told the Houston Bulletin.
The setback makes the Yankees 5-11.
