Red Sox Win Close Shave, 8-7
|
Toronto first baseman Jonathan Thompson had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Thompson went 2 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3, even as Boston beat the Blue Jays, 8-7. The win was credited to 21-year old right-handed pitcher Steve Johnson in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Ken Moscatelli took the loss. Ron Boone earned the save, his 1st.
Alex Tarango came through with a big-time hit for Boston. The designated hitter smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to give his team the lead, 8-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Michael Meagher.
The loss drops Toronto to 6-9.
