Riding the 3-hit performance of the 24-year old third baseman Antonio Alvarez, the Kansas City Royals stopped the Houston Astros, 6-2, in 9 innings. With the loss, Houston sinks to 7-9.

The Astros had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Royals going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old left fielder Edwin Gonzalez came to the plate. Gonzalez hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 sinker from Houston hurler Johnny Gibson. It was Gonzalez's 1st home run of the year.

"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Kansas City skipper Connor Gould.
