Guardians Get Hard-Earned Win
|
Though he had a terrific game, Grant Goff could not prevent his team, the New York Mets, from absorbing a loss. Cleveland won the game, 5-4. Goff was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was 28-year old right-handed pitcher Bobby Quinn. He tossed 91 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. The win gives the Guardians a record of 8-8.
Had Ramon Carrion not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Carrion hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Guardians.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Carrion told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
