The Bakersfield Blaze knocked off the Modesto Nuts, 11-8, at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Matt Sparkman was a big reason Bakersfield won. The catcher was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Bakersfield has a record of 64-69, placing them third in the North Division.

Ivan Suarez had a big bases-clearing triple for the Blaze in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Bakersfield leading 6-4 and the bases loaded, he got a splitter from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Brian Wright and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 6th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blaze ahead, 9-4.

"If you were looking for a pitchers' duel," said Suarez, "this wasn't it."
