5-2 Loss Extends Modesto Losing Streak
|
Marty Cunico, who is tied for 5th in the CAL in quality starts with 14, had a strong outing for the Bakersfield Blaze against the Modesto Nuts at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-2 win. In 6 innings, Cunico surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 4. He allowed 2 runs. Rui Coucelo earned the save for Bakersfield, his 5th.
The Blaze benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the sixth. With Bill Macias at bat and Bakersfield leading 3-2, the Modesto miscue allowed Bakersfield to plate 1 and take the lead, 4-2.
"Marty never lets off the gas," said Bakersfield manager Jerry Zuniga. "Good, bad, or ugly, he never gives in."
At 65-68, the Blaze claim 4th place in the North Division.
