The San Jose Giants had to overcome a good performance from Bakersfield pitcher Mike LaCoursiere to claim a 3-2 win at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. LaCoursiere went 5.1 innings and allowed 1 run. San Jose reliever David Stickels picked up the win, upping his record to 4-4. Chris Killman was saddled with the loss. Brandon Arnold picked up the save for San Jose, his 5th of the year.

The outcome might have been different for San Jose, had it not been for Campbell Ball, the 24-year old shortstop . Ball stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put San Jose up, 3-2. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 2 doubles and 1 single.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Bakersfield manager D'Aundray Van Slyke.

The Giants lead the North Division by 3 games.
