The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Texas Rangers, 5-3, in National League action at Busch Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of St. Louis pitcher Bill McEnerney. McEnerney picked up the win for St. Louis, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 2-0. Brandon Chopp was credited with the save for St. Louis, his 6th of the season.
Justin Brown had a big 2-run double for the Cardinals in the bottom of the third inning. With St. Louis leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Pat Yarnall and swatted a double to left. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 4-0.
Said losing manager Stephen Gesualdi: "We just didn't get it done tonight."
The win gives the Cardinals a record of 13-4.
