Yankees Lose as Guardians Stage Late Rally
|
New York got a terrific performance from pitcher Pablo Castaneda, but it wasn't enough to beat the Cleveland Guardians. Cleveland won the Yankee Stadium contest, 4-2. Castaneda threw 7.2 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Drew Goodwin, who finished 2nd in the NL in saves with 37 in 2102, earned the save for Cleveland. The Yankees fall to 8-10 and continue to sputter in the early going.
Chris Roberts had a direct impact on the outcome. Roberts contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Cleveland up, 3-2.
Roberts called the win "what playing unselfish baseball looks like."
