Reds Stick Braves with 9-3 Loss
|
Cincinnati designated hitter Jonathan Nelson made his presence felt in the 9-3 Reds triumph over the Atlanta Braves. Nelson went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Cincinnati reliever Steve Thornton picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Wayne McQuillan absorbed the loss. Jason Boles sewed up the save, his 1st.
Nelson had a timely hit for Cincinnati in the top of the seventh. With Atlanta trailing 2-1, he turned a 2-0 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season, making it 4-2, Cincinnati.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Nelson, "and go after the next one."
The loss has the Braves at 6-13.
