Win Goes to Cardinals in Tight Contest
|
The St. Louis Cardinals knocked off the Houston Astros, 6-4, in National League action at Busch Stadium. St. Louis pitcher and St. Clair Shores, Michigan, native Bill McEnerney had an outstanding performance. The win went to Tony Villa in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Jim Norris took the loss. Dave Driskill earned the save for St. Louis, his 6th of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Logan Putman came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Houston pitcher Jim Norris, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting St. Louis on top, 5-4.
Said St. Louis manager Leyland Thomas: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
The victory makes St. Louis 13-6.
