Rays Deal Royals 4-1 Setback
|
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Manzolillo was in fine form, leading his team past the Kansas City Royals, 4-1. The winning pitcher was Manzolillo, now 2-1. He tossed 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 5. Tim Berigan was credited with the save for Tampa Bay, his 8th of the season.
The Royals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Rays going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old left fielder Ricardo Rubio came to the plate. Rubio hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 fastball from Kansas City hurler Mike Mask. It was Rubio's 1st home run of the year.
"Anytime I can help the team, I feel good about it," said Rubio.
After losing, Kansas City is 8-13.
