Fine Effort by Gonzalez Not Enough in 13-8 Red Sox Loss
|
The Cleveland Guardians welcomed the Boston Red Sox to an night game at Progressive Field.
Boston right fielder Jose Gonzalez pounded Cleveland Guardians pitchers at Progressive Field, but it was not enough to keep the Red Sox from falling, 13-8. Gonzalez went 4-5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Alan Weirauch, who finished 5th in the AL in wins with 16 in 2104, was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 7 runs on 8 hits, with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Ramon Carrion, who led the NL in on-base percentage with .418 in 2096, chipped in a 2-run home run for Cleveland in the bottom of the first. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 3 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Carrion. "And not try to do too much."
The win lifts Cleveland to a record of 10-9.
