|
The Chicago Cubs dumped the Texas Rangers, 5-4, in large part due to shortstop Miguel Gerena. On the day, Gerena went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 for the Cubs. Brian Martinko earned the win to go to 2-2. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Andrew Gray, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 9th save.
Tommy Ash, who is tied for 3rd in the NL in bases on balls with 12, contributed to the Chicago win with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"When their pitchers are leaving stuff over the heart of the plate, we're not missing it," said Chicago manager Vin Calia.
