Mariners Lose Despite Valiant Effort by Garza
|
Seattle center fielder Jon Garza had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 8-6, to Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park. Garza went 4 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Getting the save was Mike Yates, his 1st. With the loss, Seattle sinks to 11-8.
Jonathan Nelson, who is tied for 6th in the NL with a .350 batting average, chipped in for Cincinnati with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the second. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Nelson, "and go after the next one."
