The Cincinnati Reds beat the Seattle Mariners, 9-4, at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati first baseman Adam Powers had an outstanding performance. He was 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Michael Watson, who finished 5th in the NL in ERA with 3.01 in 2107, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.
The Reds got a gift in the bottom of the fourth inning, when they were leading 2-1. With one out and the bases loaded, Allan Alessi reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 3-1, Cincinnati.
"We're not exactly playing great right now," said Jim McClintic, the Seattle manager.
The loss drops Seattle to 7-12.
