Texas Offense Jammed Up by Tigers
|
In a tight tilt between the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers, Mike DeRieux was the deciding factor. The Detroit right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Scott Duree closed out the game, earning his 6th save. With the win, Detroit is 14-7.
Casey Peterson had a big 2-run home run for the Tigers in the bottom of the first inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Robby Thienes, who finished 4th in the NL in innings pitched with 213.0 in 2111, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Tigers on top, 3-0.
"The team always comes first," Peterson told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
