Guardians Get Past St. Louis for 6-5 Win
|
St. Louis center fielder Dave Ritch had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-5, to Cleveland at Busch Stadium. Ritch went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Bill Spencer got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Picking up the save was 30-year old right-handed pitcher Tom Martin.
Cleveland used the timely hitting of Alex Grant to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Guardians on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
When asked about his performance after the game, Grant said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
The Guardians, now 7-14, have not found much traction so far in 2115.
