The Los Angeles Angels spoiled a good performance by Houston left fielder Cesar Mejia, bumping off Houston, 9-8, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Mejia hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The winner in relief was Jimmy Powell. He is now 1-2. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. Houston is now 10-12.

Ben Abbott had a big 3-run home run for the Angels in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Los Angeles trailing 5-3 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a cutter from Luis Rodas, who finished 5th in the AL in wins with 17 in 2108, and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Angels on top, 6-5.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Abbott.
