Cubs Roll Over Rockies, 10-4
|
Cubs catcher Joel Van Vleet put his stamp on his team's 10-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. Van Vleet was 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for Chicago in the contest. Mike Phillips earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-1. Joel Duffy wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
Tommy Ash had a big bases-clearing triple for the Cubs in the top of the sixth inning. With Chicago leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from two-time All-Star Ricky Acosta and swatted a triple to right. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 5-1.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Van Vleet.
The victory makes Chicago 14-9, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2110.
