Boosted by the 2-hit performance of Adam Powers, who led the NL in extra base hits with 84 in 2107, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-1. Cincinnati now has a record of 17-7.

With Cincinnati leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Powers hit a sinker from Ivan Gonzales for a 3-run home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Reds ahead, 5-0.

"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Cincinnati manager BJ Gorman.
