Close Win Moves Mariners to 12-14
|
The Seattle Mariners knocked off the Texas Rangers, 6-5, in American League action at Safeco Field. Seattle pitcher and San Juan, Puerto Rico, native Juan Melendez had an outstanding performance. Mike Clark earned the save for Seattle, his 2nd of the year. Texas is 15-12 after the loss.
Shane Light had a big 2-run triple for the Mariners in the bottom of the first inning. With Seattle leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Pat Yarnall and swatted a triple to center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mariners ahead, 3-0.
"We had situations where we should have got some runs in, but we didn't get the runs in," said losing manager Stephen Gesualdi.
