Reds Sneak Past Mets, 3-2
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Great American Ball Park. But Steve Carbone conjured up just enough offense to carry the Reds past the New York Mets, 3-2. Carbone was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was C.J. Williams in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Dan Herzog took the loss. With the loss, New York is 9-17.
Carbone had a timely hit for Cincinnati in the bottom of the eighth. With New York trailing 2-1, he turned a 1-1 fastball into a 2-run home run. It was his 7th home run of the season, making it 3-2, Cincinnati.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Carbone said.
