Dodgers Snatch Late Win
The New York Mets could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Erik Rice into a win. Instead, the Los Angeles Dodgers prevailed, 8-6. Rice threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball. Los Angeles reliever Billy Benedict picked up the win to move to 1-1. Chris Tresidder suffered the loss. Paul Moss nailed down the save.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Omar Tanguma came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing New York pitcher Chris Tresidder, he hit a 1-1 slider for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Los Angeles on top, 8-6.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Tanguma, "but we got it done."

For the Mets, the loss makes their record 11-17.
