Minnesota pitcher Matt Doering had a large part in his team subduing the Cleveland Guardians, 4-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Reliever Ron Hazard picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Ray Brown took the loss. Getting the save was Mark Campbell, his 3rd.

Luis Juarez, who finished 3rd in the NL in wins above replacement with 6.6 in 2107, took Cleveland hurler Ray Brown deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the Twins on top, 4-2. In all, Juarez had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.

"Anything I can do to help the team win," said Doering.

The win takes Minnesota to 17-12.
