Nationals Fall Short at New York, 3-2
|
The New York Mets took Washington pitcher Dave Barnes's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Citi Field. The final score had New York getting past the Nationals, 3-2. Barnes went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 3. New York reliever Paul Dudley was the winner. His record is now 3-0. Nate Johnson took the loss. Washington, with the loss, is 8-21.
Bobby Harris was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mets designated hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We busted our tails," said Washington manager Doug Graff. "But we came up short."
