Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Astros
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates got a sterling performance from pitcher Mike Rutherford, but the Houston Astros still prevailed, 5-2. Rutherford threw 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs. Houston is now 17-12.
The outcome might have been different for Houston, had it not been for Alex Perez, the two-time All-Star . Perez stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Houston up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Houston skipper Zeb Currier.
