Behind the hitting of Nick Rich, the New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets, 8-4. Rich went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Yankees. Bob Lattimer got the win, improving to 3-0. He held the Mets to 3 runs on 4 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Zach Rogers locked down his 12th save.
Early in the game, Rich had a 2-run home run for New York. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Yankees on top, 2-0.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Rich. "But I like how we're playing right now."
With the win, New York goes to 19-10.
