Ridin' High: Torres Hits for Cycle
Friday, August 24th , 2108
Getting 5 hits is a good day by any measure, but when those include a single, double, triple and a home run -- that's something special. Alex Torres's day was a special one.
The center fielder hit for the cycle to spark the 6-4 Tennessee Smokies victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Five County Stadium. Tennessee manager Steve Schwab said he thought the whole lineup looked good in batting practice, but had not been expecting anything extraordinary from Torres in particular.
"Alex caught me by surprise today," the skipper said. "He looked good before the game, but man, he looked unbelievable during it."
For the day, Torres finished with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored to go with his 5 hits.
Alex Torres singled in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Kyle Gruhlke in the 6th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
Thus far this season, Torres has hit .303 with 8 home runs, 34 RBIs and scored 46 times.
