He overwhelmed SL hitters all month long and captured the Pitcher of the Month award as he collected a 4-1 record in 6 starts. The 26-year-old Valdez added 40 strikeouts in 42.2 innings and 11 walks to his season record and compiled a 0.63 ERA. Other clubs hit .180 against him.
