Mobile's Gonzales Top Pitcher in August Tuesday, September 1st , 2105 Mobile BayBears hurler Mike Gonzales was rewarded today with the Southern League Pitcher of the Month honors. Gonzales, 21, realizes that pitching isn't all about how hard you can throw, it's about accuracy and about picking yourself up even when you've had a run of bad luck. "I'd like to say I don't give them anything to hit," said the Mobile starter, "but that's not true. Every pitcher gives up a long ball now and then. Usually there's at least one mistake in each at-bat, but you've got to battle through your mistakes and build some positive momentum. The rest will fall into place." Things did fall into place for Gonzales. In August he took the ball for 44 innings while notching 48 strikeouts, a 3.48 ERA and a 5-0 record. On the season, Gonzales has compiled a 5-0 mark with a 3.48 ERA in 4 starts. In pitching 44 innings he has 48 strikeouts and 10 walks while limiting the opposition to a .235 batting average. |
