SL Hands Out Reliever of the Year
Saturday, October 3rd , 2111
At the age of 24, Jesus Alvarado says he still has a lot to learn about life in Southern League.
But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Birmingham Barons reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2111 Southern League Reliever of the Year.
"I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native said.
For the season, Alvarado had 21 saves in 45 relief appearances, which totaled 77.2. He fanned 88 betters, while walking 31 and put up a record of 7-8 to go with his 1.74 ERA.
He received 10 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Armando Vega of the Mississippi Braves finished second in voting, while Colt Byler of the Tennessee Smokies finished third.
