SL Reliever of the Year Winner Named
Sunday, October 2nd , 2107
At the age of 23, Tony Ponce De Leon says he still has a lot to learn about life in Southern League.
But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Birmingham Barons reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2107 Southern League Reliever of the Year.
"I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native said.
For the season, Ponce De Leon had 24 saves in 53 relief appearances, which totaled 101.1. He fanned 116 betters, while walking 41 and put up a record of 10-6 to go with his 2.58 ERA.
He received 10 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Phil Diaz of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos finished second in voting, while Jonathan Reddington of the Chattanooga Lookouts finished third.
