Modesto Wins Round 1 Tuesday, September 16th , 2110 The Modesto Nuts are off to the Round 2 after an exciting Round 1 triumph. Modesto downed the San Jose Giants, but needed the entire series to do so, with a 7-5 win tonight at San Jose Municipal Stadium wrapping up the series 3-2. "It's every guy in this room that made this happen. Without us all pulling in the same direction, we don't win this series," said Matt Downs, who earned MVP honors for a standout offensive series. Downs put up a .500 with a .565 on-base percentage in the series. He also had 0 home runs, drove in 4 runs and scored 3 runs himself. The Modesto Nuts will play against the Lake Elsinore Storm in the next round. Lake Elsinore won their series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 3 games to 2.
