Yankees Pitching Ravaged by Carreras
Sunday, September 1st , 2109
A jubilant Luis Carreras joined the postgame press conference at Ballpark of Pearl River to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Pulaski Yankees pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Baltimore (Rk+) Orioles second baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 12-2 Orioles win.
"He made it look easy," said Steve Chase, manager of the Yankees. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Luis Carreras singled in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 6th and singled in the 7th.
