On a Roll: Serrano Hits for Cycle
Thursday, June 19th , 2110
Willie Serrano truly did it all at Yankee Stadium.
The New York Yankees center fielder hit for the cycle -- collecting 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run -- as he paced his club to victory, 12-3, over the Oakland Athletics.
"You know that sweet sound you hear when you hit the ball just right? I heard that every time today," Serrano said later. "It was a heck of a feeling."
It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Oakland pitching for 4 hits in 5 at-bats and his name will now go into the record books. Serrano also racked up 3 RBI and 2 runs scored in the game.
Willie Serrano flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Jordan Vazquez in the 7th and doubled in the 8th.
For the year, Serrano is hitting .282 with 8 home runs. His stats include 35 runs batted in and 36 runs scored.
