Akhurst Goes Downtown 3 Times Against Athletics Wednesday, June 30th , 2094 It was a terrific day today for Sterling Akhurst, who ripped three home runs at Yankee Stadium, and a disappointing one for the New York Yankees who nevertheless dropped the game to the Oakland Athletics. "He was instant offense today," New York skipper Mike Hanson said. "Sterling really put on a show. He more than did his part. We just didn't come through with hits at the right time to win the game." For the day, Akhurst collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 runs and had 6 RBIs. In the postgame press conference he told the reporters he has always liked to hit at Yankee Stadium. "I got some good pitches to hit and turned on them real good," he said. Sterling Akhurst singled in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Pat Champlin in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off John Hickey in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Aaron D'Uva in the 9th. For the year Akhurst is batting .274 with 18 home runs. |
