Johnson Gets No-Hitter Against Pittsburgh
Friday, August 1st , 2098
Arizona Diamondbacks starter Jesse Johnson said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Johnson recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Arizona right-hander no-hit the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 at Chase Field, finishing with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts, facing only 29 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Johnson admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
This year Johnson has worked 110 innings with 96 strikeouts en route to a 3-10 record and 4.75 ERA.
